Meta has been increasing the surveillance of its platforms, mainly because of mass submissions.

Because of the proximity of the elections, scheduled for October 2, 2022, Meta has been increasing the surveillance of its platforms, mainly because of mass submissions made via WhatsApp, one of the main tools responsible for the dissemination of fake news in recent years.

To strengthen the stance of combating this fake news, published as if it were real and shared exhaustively through messenger, via mailing list or groups (which can have up to 512 participants), Meta has even made available an exclusive communication channel for the Electoral Justice to inform about court orders related to the 2022 elections. This requirement is foreseen in TSE Resolution 23.608/21.

The tool, launched in 2020, has been updated to help clarify the main doubts related to the 2022 Elections and has a new version of the chatbot, a virtual robot named "TSE's Chatbot" that provides greater interaction by the user. For more information about the tool, access TSE's website here.

With the changes made, the expectation is for an increase in the number of people using the platform to research electoral fake news and obtain reliable information: "Besides being an important advance in the fight against misinformation, the partnership with WhatsApp will facilitate access to the Electoral Justice services," said Minister Edson Fachin, president of TSE.

By interacting with the bot, voters can ask questions and get information such as how to get or regularize the title, or even find out where to vote. In all, the TSE's WhatsApp Doubt Solutions has 16 topics, covering issues of great importance to voters.

One of these topics is dedicated exclusively to fighting fake news about the electoral process: "Fato ou Boato" (fact or rumor) offers access to content denied by fact-checking agencies such as AFP, Agência Lupa, Boatos.org, E-Farsas, Estadão Verifica, UOL Confere, and Fato ou Fake, among others.

Meta's concern about the election results is so great that it has postponed the launch of the "super groups" in Brazil, as can be seen in this news item.

In order to support this stance and also to reduce the sharing of misinformation, TalkAll, which works in partnership with WhatsApp, has been warning its customers about actions that are frowned upon by the company: The mass shooting of content that promotes false information, hate speech and violence, can lead to fines, suspension and even banishment of the number from the platform.

Every communication sending is oriented by TalkAll's team as follows: the user must manifest and confirm his desire to receive information and notifications through the opt-in or Acceptance Term, which consists in the act of saving the channel number in his contact agenda and follow the bot guidelines, interacting with the channel.

In addition, our team always maintains a direct dialogue with our customers, making it clear what subjects should not be shared through the messenger, besides fake news, any type of content that breaks the law, such as illegal messages, threats, harassment, defamatory, inciting violence or promoting offenses related to ethnic or racial issues, are prohibited.

Sending personal data, such as RG and CPF, for example, can lead to problems for users, because the number of scams through the application has grown gradually. In many cases, the application itself is cloned and used to ask for cash redemptions, for example.

Still talking about scams, sending malicious links is also very common on WhatsApp. These links are used to lure victims through popular content, such as the FGTS withdrawal or Brazil Allowance scam. According to Techtudo, this scam has 20,000 attempts daily.

It is important to emphasize that users must have total freedom to stop receiving the news at any time, following the exit commands, given by the bot, configured in the TalkAll Communication channels and excluding the company's number from their agenda. All these directions must be done in an objective and transparent way.

However, WhatsApp says it will continue to suspend accounts that show "inauthentic activity." According to reports, worldwide more than 8 million accounts are suspended from the app per month. Check out the news here.

The prospect is that Meta's investigation procedures will become even stricter with the proximity of the elections and, because of this, we advise our clients to always maintain a coherent posture, making good use of the tool and always establishing a relationship of trust with the users.
